The esthetic serenity invades the tumultuous and bursting emotions of this Romanian artist. Should the transparent elegance of his form invades his complex intellect, Iliescu would not hesitate to release his passion into infinite space and revolting visions, only known to his unrestrained inner cosmos. Iliescu's art is intense. Yet, a flair of finesse camouflages this wondering temerity. Art got to be valiant and defiant, sometimes, vigilant, to freeze the body and free the mind. Iliescu's art brushes this disturbing reality. It is powerful in its candor. Lyrical in its revolt. Contrary to common belief, artists do not dream, we do. They live their dreams. As such, reality and fantasy, truth and myth, time and immortality, space and infinity become one. And in this unity, their genius emerges, while ordinary people remain affixed to the window of time and frontiers of limitation, thus missing a wider spectrum of vision and understanding.

 

Iliescu's window on life and its myth is larger than ours. Iliescu's  perimeter of time and space is more extended than ours. This is why, his canvases should not be titled or dated. To each one of us, they convey a different message and represent divergent value. And because our judgment is often guided or misguided by our emotions, dreams and needs,  our priorities become a line outside the margin. This is precisely what we see or discover in this splendid Romanian artwork. I did not psychoanalyze him nor critique him. I just interpreted myself in and through his art. And when an artist, a singer, an architect or an orator succeeds in becoming the "rod", the "medium" and the "instrument" to "interpret" our lives, its fantasies and priorities, THEN, an artist becomes the human, and the human becomes "THE ARTIST". This is who Daniel Iliescu IS! And this is WHAT I see in Iliescu's art in all its simplicity and complexity. Daniel Iliescu is a superb artist.
