JOHN ALPHONSE: The concept-driven imagery of artist/documentarist John Alphonse is more of a depiction of an emotion, a feeling, or state of mind, rather than a person, place or thing. He often explores through imagery the inner, psychological world and the metaphysical, "the unseen, the surreal." His images are a glimpse into the powerful energies occupying the realm of non-solid matter that surround us yet are invisible on the human wavelength, such as dream state or spiritual awakening. He frequently relies on the use of motion - intentional image blur caused by time-lapse techniques - to reflect the spirit of the moment, and of the subject being photographed. It is what he calls "emotion through motion." He attempts to bring into the visual world that which is intangible.
